Maharashtra bans analogue non-dairy paneer; offenders face jail, fines

Maharashtra bans analogue non-dairy paneer; offenders face jail, fines

Some food makers make 'fake' paneer that is not made from milk.

Instead, they use cheap vegetable oil, starch, and other additives.

This fake paneer looks like real paneer but has less protein and nutrition.

Some hotels and restaurants served it without telling customers it was not real paneer.

The government of Maharashtra in India decided this was not fair or safe.

So it banned making, selling, storing, and transporting this non-dairy paneer for one year.

People who break the rule could go to jail and have to pay large fines.

Food inspectors also found that many samples failed safety tests.

Some leaders want the government to check fake cheese products too.

The ban is meant to keep people healthy and make sure food is labelled honestly.
