Digital Agriculture Mission to Receive Funding Boost
The government is planning to increase the budget for the Digital Agriculture Mission.
This mission helps farmers by using technology to keep track of crops, land, and weather.
It also helps in giving farmers benefits like money for crops and insurance.
The mission has already given special IDs to many farmers, which help them get these benefits easily.
The government is also working on a new digital platform called VISTAAR, where farmers can learn about good farming practices and access markets.
The mission aims to make farming better and more transparent using digital tools.
Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman to announce a substantial hike in budgetary allocation for the Digital Agriculture Mission in the 2026–27 Budget.
The mission, launched last year with a Rs 2,817 crore budget, aims to expand with a higher allocation from FY27 onwards.
The mission focuses on transparency in crop estimation, efficiency in welfare schemes, and digital infrastructure for farmers.
Over 77 million farmer IDs have been issued, with a target of 90 million by the end of FY26.
A new digital platform, VISTAAR, will be launched to provide farmers with access to virtual classrooms, credit, insurance, and digital marketplaces.
