Study: Over 14% of Indians Above 45 Have Lung Disease
Imagine a lot of grown-ups in India, especially those over 45, have trouble breathing.
A big study found that more than 14 out of every 100 people in this age group have a lung problem.
This means their lungs aren't working as well as they should.
The study used special breathing tests to find this out.
The problem is more common in men than women.
Sadly, not many people know they have it.
Doctors say we need to teach people about these lung problems and how to avoid them, especially by not smoking and using clean ways to cook food.
They are gathering more information in a second study to learn even more.
A study revealed over 14% of Indians aged 45+ may have obstructive lung disease.
The research was conducted by the Longitudinal Aging Study in India (LASI).
Over 31,000 adults were analyzed using lung function tests (spirometry).
Men are more likely affected than women, and prevalence increases with age.
Awareness of the disease is low, with only about 11-12% of people having a prior diagnosis.
