Chaithla Forest Land Eviction Completed; Over 4,000 Trees Cut
Imagine the government had to remove people who were using land in a forest that wasn't theirs to grow apples and other crops.
They cut down many apple trees to take back the land.
This happened in a village called Chaithla.
The officials started this after someone complained years ago.
The government has told the forest department to take over the land and put up fences.
Some people are unhappy because the logs from the trees are not easy to sell or use.
The government is trying to figure out the best way to use the logs.
Forest and Revenue Departments completed an eviction drive in Chaithla village.
Approximately 300 bighas of encroached forest land were cleared by removing fruit trees.
Over 4,200 trees, mainly apple, were cut during the drive.
The drive followed a 2014 complaint about encroachment for apple, potato, and pea cultivation.
Authorities are to start fencing work on the recovered land.
