Massive Protest Against Mega Projects in Palghar
A big protest happened in Palghar, Maharashtra, where thousands of people, including fishermen, farmers, and women, marched to the District Collectorate.
They were protesting against the Vadhvan Port and other big projects that they say will harm their livelihoods and the environment.
The protesters said these projects will take away their land, destroy fishing areas, and cause pollution.
They also said the government is not listening to their concerns.
The protest caused some traffic problems, and the police had to manage the crowds.
The protesters gave a letter to the District Collector asking them to cancel these projects and promise not to start any new ones without their agreement.
They warned that if their demands are not met, they will protest even more.
Thousands of fisherfolk, Adivasis, farmers, workers, women, and youth marched to the Palghar District Collectorate to protest against the proposed Vadhvan Port project and other mega projects.
The protest began at the Thane District Fishermen’s Association Hall in Palghar and proceeded to the District Collectorate, with participants alleging that these projects will cause large-scale displacement and environmental degradation.
Protesters accused the government of pushing destructive projects without meaningful public consultations and ignoring objections raised during public hearings.
Women participated in large numbers, raising concerns about the impact on their land, sea, and children's future, and demanding that their rights be protected.
The protest led to temporary traffic disruptions, prompting heightened police deployment, and a memorandum was submitted to the District Collector demanding the cancellation of the Vadhvan Port and other controversial projects.
