Tamil Nadu Forms Expert Panel for El Nino Preparedness
The Tamil Nadu government has created a special group of scientists and experts to study how a big weather pattern called El Nino might affect the state.
They will look at rain, drought, and floods to help the government plan better.
The group will work for two years, from 2026 to 2028.
They will tell the government which areas are most at risk and suggest ways to warn people early.
This helps keep people safe and reduces damage from extreme weather.
Tamil Nadu government formed an expert advisory committee on July 28, 2023.
The committee will study El Nino’s effects on rainfall, drought, and flooding.
It will advise the Tamil Nadu Disaster Risk Reduction Agency on early warnings.
The panel will operate during the 2026-27 and 2027-28 financial years.
