Himachal flags 168 substandard medicines, 40 units face legal action

In Himachal Pradesh, 168 out of 12,034 drug samples failed quality tests over the past three years.

The state government has taken legal action against 40 industrial units and initiated administrative action in 52 cases.

Probes are underway in 65 cases, while 11 cases have been challenged by manufacturing units.

Out of these, 7 samples were found to be of standard quality, and 9 reports are still pending.

The state has a drug testing laboratory in Baddi, which can test 6,000 samples annually and is accredited by NABL.

Another combined testing laboratory in Kandaghat tests both medicines and food items.
