Tamil Nadu Minister Suggests Tweaks to Vehicle Scrapping Policy, Proposes Auto Dealer Cluster
A government minister in Tamil Nadu thinks that a plan to get rid of old cars could help people buy new cars, but he wants some parts of the plan to be changed.
He also suggested creating a special area near Chennai where car dealerships can work together, sharing ideas and maybe even tools.
This is because Tamil Nadu makes a lot of cars, especially electric ones.
The car dealers also want all parts of India to follow the same rules for cars, like a big rulebook, so it's fair for everyone selling cars.
Tamil Nadu Industries Minister TRB Rajaa stated the vehicle scrapping policy could revitalize the new car buying ecosystem with adjustments.
Rajaa expressed disagreement with certain clauses in the current Central government's scrapping policy, suggesting a relook.
A proposal for an automobile dealer cluster outside Chennai was put forth, with suggestions for shared knowledge and resources.
FADA President CS Vigneshwar highlighted the need for uniform implementation of Central Motor Vehicle Rules across all states.
The Madras High Court has directed the Tamil Nadu government to implement these rules within two weeks.
