Delhi Zoo Reopens After Two-Month Closure Due to Avian Flu
The Delhi Zoo is open again for visitors after being closed for over two months.
It had to close because some birds got sick with a type of bird flu called avian influenza.
Sadly, many birds died from this sickness.
To make sure it was safe to open, zoo officials did many tests on the animals and the environment.
The tests showed that the sickness was gone, so the zoo can now welcome people back.
They are still being very careful with safety rules to keep everyone healthy.
Delhi Zoo reopened for visitors on Saturday, November 8, after a closure of over two months.
The zoo was closed on August 30 as a precaution after several bird deaths were reported in its waterbird aviary.
At least 12 birds, including painted storks and black-headed ibis, died, with four testing positive for H5N1 avian influenza.
Rigorous cleaning, surveillance, and multiple rounds of testing were conducted to ensure the containment of the virus.
Recent tests have come back negative, allowing the zoo to reopen with strict biosafety and preventive measures in place.
