Mumbai-Pune Expressway: Speed Limit Hike for Heavy Vehicles Considered
Imagine you're driving a big truck down a steep hill on a highway.
Right now, trucks have to go very slowly, which is hard and can cause problems with the brakes.
The government is thinking about letting them go a little faster, up to about 50 kilometers per hour, because truck drivers have complained.
They say going too slow is risky.
They've checked out the road to see if it's safe to go a bit faster.
Some trucks are even getting tickets for going a little bit over the speed limit, making it expensive for them.
The officials will meet soon to decide.
Authorities are considering raising the speed limit for heavy vehicles on the Bhor Ghat section of the Mumbai-Pune Expressway.
The potential increase is from the current 40 kmph to around 50 kmph.
The decision follows complaints from transporters about the difficulty of maintaining the current low speed on the steep downward slope.
A survey was conducted by officials to assess the situation.
Speed cameras have worsened the situation as many heavy vehicles get tickets for marginally exceeding the limit.
