YSRCP MPs raise pollution, highway safety concerns in RS
Two members of the YSRCP party in India's Rajya Sabha spoke about serious problems in Andhra Pradesh.
One member, Golla Baburao, said that Visakhapatnam, a city in Andhra Pradesh, is very polluted.
The air pollution there is 10 times higher than what the World Health Organization says is safe.
This has been happening for six years.
The main reasons for the pollution are factories, cars, dust from roads, building work, and burning biomass.
The member also said that many jobs in the Andhra Pradesh Pollution Control Board are empty, which makes it hard to check the pollution.
He asked the Prime Minister and the Environment Minister to help fix these problems.
Another member, Meda Raghunadha Reddy, talked about a highway in Andhra Pradesh that is in bad condition.
The Kadapa-Renigunta section of NH-761 is dangerous, especially at night.
He asked the Transport Minister to make the road safer until a new highway is built.
Visakhapatnam has been one of India's top 10 most polluted cities for six consecutive years, with pollution levels 10 times higher than WHO's recommended limit.
Primary causes of pollution in Visakhapatnam include industrial pollution, vehicular emissions, road dust, construction activities, and biomass burning.
The Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) has identified Visakhapatnam as a non-attainment city for failing to meet national ambient air quality standards.
Over 70% of vehicles banned in Delhi due to age restrictions are being purchased by people from Andhra Pradesh, exacerbating the pollution crisis.
The Kadapa-Renigunta section of NH-761 is in a deteriorated condition, with unsafe stretches making travel dangerous, especially at night.
