Singur Dam Water Release Ordered
The government of Telangana has decided to slowly let out some water from the Singur dam.
This is because experts found that the dam might be in danger if too much water is stored.
The dam is very important because it provides drinking water to Hyderabad and other areas.
The government will first lower the water level to a safe point, check for any damage, and then decide if more water needs to be released.
This plan is to make sure that people still have enough water to drink while fixing the dam.
The Telangana government has ordered the irrigation department to start releasing water from the Singur reservoir.
The water level will be lowered to 517.5 meters, leaving 8.17 tmc ft of water in the reservoir.
This is the first phase of a planned depletion to assess and repair damage to the dam's bunds.
The National Dam Safety Authority (NDSA) had flagged the dam as facing 'imminent danger' if water was not released.
The government decided on a phased approach to minimize the impact on the drinking water supply for Hyderabad and other districts.
