Federal Bank Ordered to Pay ₹1.25 Lakh After Card Blocked Abroad

Federal Bank Ordered to Pay ₹1.25 Lakh After Card Blocked Abroad

A man from Kerala had a debit card from Federal Bank.

While traveling from Kuwait to Kochi in September 2021, his card stopped working at the airport and later at a shop and an ATM.

He could not buy food or withdraw money.

He said the bank blocked his card without telling him first.

The bank said it had a warning from Mastercard and tried to send a text, but it didn’t go through.

The consumer court looked at the case and said the bank should have told the customer before blocking the card.

The court ordered the bank to pay the man ₹1.25 lakh in compensation and cover his legal costs.

The bank was also told it had acted unfairly.

This case shows that banks must inform customers before stopping their card.
