Gandhi’s Thumb-Rule Should Guide India’s Growth Across Ages

Gandhi’s Thumb-Rule Should Guide India’s Growth Across Ages

Mahatma Gandhi wrote a simple test for making important decisions.

He shared it shortly before India became free in 1947.

He said people should think about the poorest and weakest person they have seen.

Then they should ask whether their decision will help that person.

They should also ask whether it gives that person more control over their own life.

Gandhi called this a way to support swaraj.

Swaraj means people having control over their own lives and futures.

The passage says this idea should remain important even as India becomes richer.
