Amin Hajee Says Lagaan Set Impossible Benchmark, Derailing His Career
Amin Hajee acted in the famous film Lagaan as Bagha.
He said the movie was so special that later acting offers did not seem good enough.
Because he rejected some jobs, he had trouble finding regular work.
This also caused money problems for him and his family.
He said the pressure to earn made him feel like a failure as a man.
Later, he worked with filmmaker Vikram Bhatt and earned money from that work.
He left that stable work to make his own movie, Koi Jaane Na.
His wife, Charlotte, supported him and encouraged him to follow his dream.
Hajee said she stayed beside him during both difficult and successful times.
Amin Hajee said Lagaan’s exceptional standard made later roles difficult to accept.
The actor recalled turning down several offers because they did not match the 2001 film.
Hajee said the lack of consistent work caused serious financial difficulties for his family.
He later worked with filmmaker Vikram Bhatt before leaving to develop Koi Jaane Na.
Hajee credited his wife, Charlotte Whitby-Coles, with supporting him through the uncertainty.
