Bombay HC Orders Demolition of Encroachments on Jewish Cemetery Land
The Bombay High Court told the Panvel city government to get rid of buildings that shouldn't be on land that has been used as a Jewish cemetery for 200 years.
A group called the Jewish Heritage Trust said that people had built homes and put up signs without permission on their land.
They also said the city hadn't done anything about it, even though they knew who was building on the land.
The Trust also complained that waste was being thrown into a holy lake.
The court agreed that the city must remove the buildings and told them to finish the job within three months.
The court didn't take sides on whether the buildings are on the right land, and it said anyone who doesn't like the decision can ask a higher court to review it.
Bombay High Court ordered Panvel Municipal Corporation (PMC) to remove unauthorized constructions on Jewish cemetery land.
The Jewish Heritage Trust filed a plea alleging encroachments on land reserved for Jewish burial rituals.
The Trust claimed PMC repeatedly failed to act against encroachers despite identifying them.
The plea also raised concerns about waste discharge into the Israeli tank used for pre-burial rituals.
The court directed PMC to take action against the structures within three months.
