Farmers Reject Purandar Airport Land Acquisition Offer, Demand Higher Compensation
Imagine the government wants to build a new airport and needs some land from farmers.
They offered the farmers about Rs 1 crore for each part of their land.
But the farmers think this is not enough money.
They say it's much less than what other farmers got when their land was taken for other big projects.
The government also said they would pay extra for houses and trees, but the farmers want more money for their land first.
They want the government to talk with them in their villages to figure out a fair price before they agree.
Farmers in Purandar are rejecting the government's offer of Rs 1 crore per acre for land acquisition for a new airport.
The proposed compensation is based on four times the ready reckoner rate, with additional double value for structures and trees.
Farmers argue the compensation is too low compared to rates offered for projects like Samruddhi Mahamarg or Palkhi Marg.
Farmers demand higher compensation and want direct meetings with the Collector in their villages.
The Pune District Collector hopes to start distributing funds by the end of November.
