Emcure's Poviztra Approved for Fatty Liver Treatment
Emcure Pharmaceuticals has received approval from the CDSCO to use their drug Poviztra for treating a type of fatty liver disease called MASH.
Poviztra is a version of the drug semaglutide, which is also sold as Wegovy.
This approval means that more people in India can now get this treatment for a serious liver condition.
The drug is made by Novo Nordisk in Europe, and Emcure is working with them to bring it to patients.
This is important because MASH is a disease that can cause a lot of damage to the liver, and there haven't been many treatment options available until now.
Emcure's Poviztra, a co-marketed version of semaglutide, received CDSCO approval for treating MASH, a type of fatty liver disease.
Poviztra is manufactured by Novo Nordisk in Europe and contains rDNA-origin semaglutide.
The approval allows Emcure to offer Poviztra for MASH treatment, expanding access for patients with limited treatment options.
Novo Nordisk India and Emcure Pharma partnered last year to launch Poviztra as a second brand of Wegovy in India.
MASH is a serious liver disease caused by excess fat buildup, leading to chronic inflammation and liver damage.
