Supreme Court Clarifies FIR Withdrawal for Student Protesters
The Supreme Court said that if a student was part of a protest, the police can drop the case against them unless they have a serious crime like murder or rape.
The court also said it could cancel the case if needed.
The Cockroach Janta Party, a group that helps protestors, is happy with this decision.
They want the government to follow the court’s promise.
The next court meeting will be on August 18.
The decision helps keep students safe from unfair charges.
It shows the court is listening to the people’s concerns.
The government is expected to act quickly.
This is a win for the students and the party that supports them.
Supreme Court clarified that "criminal antecedents" refers only to grave offences, allowing FIR withdrawal for other student protesters.
The Court confirmed states may close or withdraw FIRs against students who participated in NEET paper leak protests if they lack criminal antecedents.
Cockroach Janta Party welcomed the clarification and urged the Centre and BJP/NDA states to honour July 25 assurances immediately.
CJP spokespersons said the Court could invoke Article 142 to quash FIRs and that the party would continue legal aid to protesters.
The matter will be heard again on August 18, and CJP will monitor implementation of the assurances.
