Credit Card Spending Tops Rs 2 Lakh Crore in July
People in India used credit cards to spend Rs 2.08 lakh crore in July 2026.
This was more than they spent in June and in July 2025.
Most of the money was spent online rather than in physical shops.
People used cards for shopping, travel bookings, food delivery, bills and entertainment.
India also had more than 122 million credit cards in use.
The number of card transactions grew quickly.
However, people spent less money on each transaction on average.
This suggests that cards are being used more often for smaller everyday purchases.
Big cities still use the most credit cards, but smaller cities are growing too.
Credit card spending reached Rs 2.08 lakh crore in July 2026, up from Rs 2.01 lakh crore in June and Rs 1.93 lakh crore in July 2025.
Online purchases accounted for 62.1 percent of credit card spending by value in May 2026, exceeding physical point-of-sale payments.
India had 122.86 million outstanding credit cards in July, an increase of about 1.26 million cards from June.
Transaction volume rose 24.5 percent year-on-year to 605.3 million, while average spending per transaction fell to around Rs 3,440.
Mumbai, Delhi-NCR and Bengaluru remained leading markets, while credit card use continued expanding in smaller cities.
