Nishad launches padyatra for Majhwar quota
Sanjay Nishad, the leader of the NISHAD Party and a minister in Uttar Pradesh, started a big walking march called 'Samvaidhanik Adhikar Padyatra' from Kushinagar.
He wants the government to give special benefits, called reservation, to the Majhwar community and other related groups.
Right now, they are in a category called Other Backward Classes, but Nishad wants them to be in the Scheduled Caste category so they can get more help with jobs and education.
He visited a special place where Buddha is said to have passed away and prayed for peace.
He also asked all the different groups within the fishing community to come together and ask for these benefits in a peaceful and democratic way.
The march will happen in all 75 districts of Uttar Pradesh.
Nishad also asked his party workers to talk to the BJP leaders about this demand.
Sanjay Nishad launched 'Samvaidhanik Adhikar Padyatra' from Kushinagar, UP.
He seeks reservation for Majhwars and related sub-groups under Scheduled Caste instead of Other Backward Classes.
Nishad visited the Mahaparinirvana site of Lord Buddha and offered prayers.
The padyatra will be held in a phased manner across all 75 districts of UP.
He urged unity among all sub-castes of the fishing community to raise their demands democratically.
