Beijing Forces Meta to Unwind $2 Billion Manus Acquisition

A big company named Meta paid two billion dollars to buy a smaller company that makes smart computer helpers called AI agents.

The smaller company is called Manus.

Manus was started in China in 2022, but later moved its official home to Singapore.

China's government said Meta was not allowed to keep Manus and told Meta to give it back.

Now Manus is going to become its own independent company again.

Meta has already cut Manus workers off from its private computer systems.

The people who started Manus want to raise about one billion dollars to buy it back, and another company called Tencent might buy it instead.

China says that even if a company moves its office to another country, if the technology and clever people came from China, China still has a say in what happens.

This is part of a bigger fight between China and the United States over who controls artificial intelligence technology.
