Vylor Targets Hyderabad as Asia’s Gene-Editing Seed Hub

Vylor is a new company created after Corteva Agriscience separates its seed business.

It wants its research centre in Hyderabad to help develop improved seeds for countries across Asia.

The centre already works on breeding, DNA analysis and other advanced seed technologies.

Vylor plans to keep spending about $1 billion each year on seed research.

In India, its seeds will continue to use the Pioneer name.

The company is especially interested in gene editing, which can change plants to help them handle heat, limited water and climate problems.

India has developed two rice varieties using this technology.

However, India has not yet allowed gene-edited crops to be grown commercially at scale.

Vylor says it is hopeful that India will create a clear and predictable approval process.
