NITI Aayog urges easier land acquisition to attract industry investment

India wants more factories and businesses so more people can have jobs.

But building a factory needs land, and getting land in India is very hard.

A special government office called NITI Aayog says India needs to make buying land for projects easier.

Mr. Ashok Kumar Lahiri, a leader at NITI Aayog, told a meeting that getting land should be simpler.

A rule from 2013 says people who give up their land must get a lot of money, like four times the land's price in villages.

That rule also asks most families who own the land to say yes before it can be taken.

These rules are meant to be fair to farmers, but they also make building projects very slow.

The state of West Bengal did not like the new rule for a long time.

Its new leader, Suvendu Adhikari, wants to help give land for factories, but there is no clear plan yet.

Some officials worry it will still be hard because many people in Bengal own only small pieces of land.
