Haryana's Women Safety Team Combats Harassment
In Haryana, a special team of seven women police officers is working to help girls and women who are being harassed.
They visit schools, colleges, and other places to talk to women and give them their phone numbers so they can call for help anytime.
The team prefers to solve problems by talking to the people causing trouble rather than filing official complaints.
They have helped many girls and women by warning the harassers and making them stop.
The team also teaches people about women's rights and the laws that protect them.
Their goal is to make women feel safe and confident so they can speak up if something bad happens to them.
An all-women Haryana Police team in Hisar combats harassment and builds trust with women and girls.
The team prefers remedial measures and warnings over lodging formal complaints, having registered only three FIRs since January 2024.
They visit schools, colleges, coaching centers, bus stands, parks, and factories to raise awareness about women's rights and legal provisions.
The team intervenes in cases of harassment, often issuing warnings and ensuring harassers comply with legal directions under Section 172 of BNSS, 2023.
Superintendent of Police Shashank Kumar Sawan describes the initiative as a proactive effort to build confidence and act immediately on harassment reports.
