Election Commission Refuses New Family Register Certificates For Telangana Voters

Election Commission Refuses New Family Register Certificates For Telangana Voters

Voting is very important, and before elections, officials check the list of people who are allowed to vote.

This list is called the electoral roll.

In a place called Telangana, the state government recently started giving out a new paper called a Family Register Certificate, or FRC for short.

These certificates were given to families that have ration cards, which are special cards that help poor families get food.

Many people were worried that without this paper, they might not be allowed to vote.

The Election Commission of India, the big group that makes sure elections are fair, said the new paper cannot be used to check the voter list.

They said the new certificate is only as good as a ration card, and a ration card is not proof that someone is a citizen.

They also said older Family Member Certificates, given before July 25, 2026, are still okay to use.

Some people agree with this decision, and some do not.

The state government says it will ask lawyers for help, because it wants poor families to find it easy to prove they can vote, but it also wants the voter list to be correct and fair.
