China Revives Urumqi Talks to Ease Pakistan-Afghan Border Tensions

China Revives Urumqi Talks to Ease Pakistan-Afghan Border Tensions

China is trying to help Pakistan and Afghanistan reduce fighting along their border.

China’s special envoy, Yue Xiaoyong, visited Pakistan to discuss new peace talks.

The talks could happen in Urumqi, a city in China.

Pakistan wants Afghanistan to take clear action against the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan.

China is also worried about the East Turkestan Islamic Movement and threats to its projects.

The countries may discuss sharing intelligence and watching the border together.

Earlier talks were described as constructive, but they did not produce a lasting agreement.

It is not yet known whether the renewed process will stop the border tensions.
