Hormuz Traffic Falls as US Insists Waterway Remains Fully Open

Hormuz Traffic Falls as US Insists Waterway Remains Fully Open

Tensions are rising between Iran and the United States around the Strait of Hormuz.

Iran warned that it could create a restricted maritime zone in response to US sanctions.

The United States says the waterway is fully open.

Fewer ships traveled through the strait last week.

US Central Command said it had redirected, disabled or boarded several vessels since mid-July.

Iran’s security chief said recent missile launches were a warning to Washington.

Iran also raised gasoline prices for people using more than 110 litres each month.

Officials said the increase would help reduce record fuel use and provide more revenue to households.

The price increase comes as Iran faces high inflation, a weak currency and fuel imports.
