Karimnagar Shops Install Iron Grills to Keep Monkeys Away

Monkeys have been coming into villages and shops in Karimnagar district to look for food.

They sometimes take packaged snacks from small grocery stores.

Shopkeepers have put iron grills or mesh around their shops to protect the food.

One shop has a small opening so customers can still buy things.

A shopkeeper said monkeys lost places to find food and shelter when nearby hillocks became granite quarries.

Some families also keep their garbage in mesh boxes outside their homes.

They do this because monkeys may scatter the rubbish.

Municipal workers do not collect household garbage on Saturdays and Sundays.

Small hotels and eateries have also put mesh boxes in place.
