Taratala flyover closed for load test
The Taratala flyover in Kolkata is closed for almost four days to test how strong it is.
This is because the flyover has had some problems in the past, like cracks and potholes.
The test will help experts decide if the flyover is safe to use.
While the flyover is closed, people can use other roads like the Karunamoyee bridge or Biren Roy Road West to get around.
The flyover was built in 2006 to help with traffic, but it has needed repairs a few times since then.
The test will check three parts of the flyover to make sure it can handle the traffic.
Taratala flyover on Diamond Harbour Road closed from 3.30pm Saturday to 11.59pm Tuesday for a load test.
Alternative routes provided for vehicles heading north of Behala and Thakurpukur, and towards Behala and further south.
Load test to be conducted on three spans of the flyover to assess its capacity and recommend measures.
Flyover has a history of structural issues, including cracks and potholes, with previous closures in 2010 and 2022.
PWD official assures that there is no current problem with the structure, and the load test will help ascertain its capacity.
