Delhi Sees Surge in Diabetes and Heart Deaths

In 2024, Delhi saw a big increase in deaths caused by diabetes and heart-related issues.

There were 2,459 deaths due to diabetes, which is 35% more than the previous year.

Most of these deaths happened in hospitals.

Over the years, the number of diabetes deaths has been rising, especially in people aged 45 to 64.

Doctors say this is because people are not being active, eating unhealthy food, and not sleeping well.

They also say that parents can help prevent diabetes in children by making sure they eat healthy food, play outside, and get enough sleep.

Regular check-ups can also help find diabetes early and treat it better.

Additionally, heart-related deaths increased by more than 50%, with 34,539 deaths in 2024 compared to 22,385 in 2023.

The highest number of heart-related deaths occurred in the age groups of 45-64 years and 65 years and above.
