Tibetan Administration Rebukes Wangchuk Over Ladakh-Tibet Comparison During Anniversary Protests

Tibetan Administration Rebukes Wangchuk Over Ladakh-Tibet Comparison During Anniversary Protests

Sonam Wangchuk compared the treatment of people in Ladakh with the treatment of Tibetans in China.

The Central Tibetan Administration said this comparison was unfair and did not describe the situation in Tibet correctly.

It said Tibetans face restrictions on their rights, religion, language and culture.

Wangchuk said he supports Tibetans and was only describing what happened in Ladakh.

Ladakh saw violent protests in September 2025.

Four civilians died and about 80 people were injured.

People in the region held shutdowns and memorial meetings one year later.

Wangchuk also said many people were arrested and accused authorities of using excessive force.

Ladakh’s lieutenant governor said criminal cases against 20 people connected to the protests would be withdrawn.
