NYC Council Scrutinizes Mamdani Administration’s Influencer Messaging Network

NYC Council Scrutinizes Mamdani Administration’s Influencer Messaging Network

New York City officials reportedly created a private online group for social media influencers.

The group had 189 members.

City officials shared news updates, talking points and videos there.

Some influencers were paid through formal contracts with city agencies.

Other influencers said they supported Mayor Zohran Mamdani and joined without formal contracts.

The City Council wants to learn more about how the group was used.

A council member also wants paid posts to clearly say they were paid for by New York City.

Officials may also have to explain whether messages were automatically deleted.

Deleting messages could create questions about the city’s record-keeping rules.
