Festival Demand Pushes Indian Pepper Prices Higher Amid Production

Festival Demand Pushes Indian Pepper Prices Higher Amid Production

Pepper prices in India are going up before the festival season.

More people are expected to buy pepper for Ganesh Chaturthi, Navratri and Diwali.

Indian farms have produced less pepper because of poor weather and insufficient rain.

Some farmers in Idukki are also changing from pepper to cardamom.

Because local supplies are not enough, traders are bringing in more pepper from other countries.

Sri Lanka is currently the main source because it has had a large crop.

Pepper from Vietnam and Brazil is cheaper than pepper in India.

However, prices in Sri Lanka have also risen because more buyers are interested.

The Indian pepper industry expects imports to become more important if demand remains strong.
