Government Review: Sanitation Progress in Villages Assessed
A recent review of the Swachh Bharat Mission-Grameen (SBM-G) showed that while many villages are working on sanitation, only about half have been officially checked and approved as meeting all the standards.
This means the villages are open-defecation free and have systems for managing waste.
Experts and government officials met to discuss how to improve sanitation, make it stronger against climate change, and make sure it lasts.
They also talked about involving local leaders in making these changes.
Important new guides were released at the meeting to help sanitation workers and build better sanitation systems.
A government review revealed that only 54% of verified villages have achieved ODF Plus Model status, despite 80% coverage.
80% of targeted villages have achieved ODF Plus Model status, while only 54% have been verified.
Solid waste management stands at 87% coverage and plastic waste management at 70% block-level coverage.
