India Clears Fourth Railway Line Through Chicken's Neck Corridor
The northeastern part of India is connected to the rest of the country by a very narrow strip of land.
That narrow strip is nicknamed the Chicken's Neck because it looks like a chicken's neck on a map.
Trains use this strip to carry people and goods between the two regions.
The government decided to build a fourth railway track along this route.
Earlier, people were only talking about building a third track.
Now the government has approved an even bigger plan.
More tracks mean more trains can travel through the narrow corridor at the same time.
This helps make travel easier and faster for people in the Northeast.
The news was shared by Chetan Shrivastava, who is in charge of the Northeast Frontier Railway.
The government has cleared a fourth railway line for the Malda–New Jalpaiguri section.
The section is a critical rail link connecting India's Northeast with the rest of the country.
A third railway line had earlier been proposed for the stretch before the fourth was approved.
Northeast Frontier Railway General Manager Chetan Shrivastava confirmed the clearance.
The update was published on 13 August 2026.
