Landmark Kidney Transplant Performed on 11-Year-Old
Doctors at Safdarjung Hospital did a very special surgery on an 11-year-old boy who had very sick kidneys.
His kidneys didn't grow properly when he was born, so he needed a new kidney.
His mom gave him one of her kidneys, and now the boy is feeling much better.
This is the first time this kind of surgery has been done in a government hospital for a child.
The doctors had to be very careful because the boy's body is small, and the new kidney is bigger.
The boy is doing well and will go home soon.
Safdarjung Hospital successfully performed a kidney transplant on an 11-year-old boy with a rare kidney disorder.
This is the first pediatric renal transplant in any Central government hospital in India.
The boy had end-stage kidney disease due to bilateral hyper dysplastic kidneys, a condition where both kidneys are underdeveloped.
The donor was the boy's 35-year-old mother.
The patient is recovering well, off dialysis, and expected to be discharged soon.
