Mumbai University to Integrate Skills into Traditional Courses
Mumbai University is planning to add skills training to its traditional Bachelor's degree programs.
This means students will learn core subjects like history or science for half of their classes and take courses in skills like hospitality or machine learning for the other half.
This change, promoted by the University Grants Commission, aims to prepare students for jobs by partnering with companies and using online platforms.
It hopes to make sure students are ready to work in different industries after graduation.
The goal is to make traditional degrees more practical and relevant.
Mumbai University to offer skill-integrated BA, BCom, and BSc courses from 2026-27.
The programs are designed to counter declining interest in traditional courses.
Students will get 50% credits from core subjects and 50% from multidisciplinary skills.
Courses will be developed in collaboration with the Maharashtra Skill Development Society and industry partners.
UGC aims to make graduates more employable through these skill-oriented courses.
