India Imports Russian Crude Despite US and EU Pressure
India is still buying a lot of oil from Russia, even though the US and EU want them to stop.
Over the weekend of August 4, 2025, several tankers brought more than 5 million barrels of Russian oil to India.
This oil is going to both big companies and the government.
The US is not happy about this and has put pressure on India to stop.
India is continuing to buy the cheaper Russian oil to keep their energy flowing and because they have a long-term agreement with Russian oil companies, despite the growing political tensions.
India imported over 5 million barrels of Russian crude oil, including Urals and Varandey grades, over the weekend ending August 4, 2025.
Multiple Aframax tankers, such as Achilles, Elyte, and Horae, delivered the crude to Indian ports.
The oil was offloaded at ports including Sikka, Mundra, Kochi, and Mangalore.
Both private and state-owned companies, including Reliance Industries, Nayara Energy, and Indian Oil Corp, are receiving the oil.
The US and EU have pressured India to halt these purchases, while India maintains its independent foreign policy.
