Swiggy's Q1 Losses Balloon; Re-evaluating Rapido Stake
Swiggy, a food delivery service, lost a lot of money in the first three months of the year.
While they made more sales, their expenses increased.
The food delivery part of the business made some money, but the quick commerce part (like Instamart) lost a lot.
Swiggy is also thinking about what to do with its investment in Rapido, a ride-hailing company, because Rapido is starting a food delivery service, which could cause problems for Swiggy.
Swiggy's Q1 losses reached ₹1,197 crore, significantly higher than the previous year.
Revenue increased by 54% year-over-year to ₹4,961 crore in the first quarter.
Food delivery revenue was ₹1,799 crore, with a profitable segment result of ₹202 crore.
Quick commerce, primarily Instamart, reported ₹806 crore in revenue but a ₹797 crore loss.
Swiggy is re-evaluating its investment in Rapido due to potential conflict of interest.
