Court Denies Bail to Ultra Tech Proprietors in Scavenger Death Case
Two men died while cleaning a sewage treatment plant in Mumbai.
The court said the company that hired them, Ultra Tech, did not give them the right safety gear.
The owners of Ultra Tech asked for bail, but the court said no because they are responsible for the workers' safety, even if they hired another company to do the job.
The court believes they need to be investigated further.
Two manual scavengers died while cleaning a sewage treatment plant in Powai, Mumbai.
The court denied anticipatory bail to the proprietors of Ultra Tech, the company that awarded the cleaning contract.
The contract stated that Ultra Tech was responsible for providing safety equipment and supervising the work.
The subcontractor, Fulchand Saw, also died during treatment, leaving Ultra Tech's proprietors as the main accused.
The court ruled that subcontracting the job does not absolve Ultra Tech of its obligations to ensure worker safety.
