Former NITI Official Says India’s E20-Only Rollout Came Early

Former NITI Official Says India’s E20-Only Rollout Came Early

India is now making petrol with 20% ethanol, called E20, available across the country.

Randheer Singh, a former NITI Aayog official, said this change happened too quickly.

Many older cars and scooters were made before E20 became common.

He said most drivers should not panic or sell a working vehicle cheaply.

Older vehicles may use slightly more petrol with E20.

Bringing back E10 petrol would require separate storage, transport, and pump systems.

When people eventually replace their vehicles, they can choose an E20-ready petrol vehicle or an electric vehicle.

Singh also said battery-sharing plans could make electric vehicles less expensive to buy.
