Zuckerberg Challenges Proposed FINRA-Style AI Watchdog

Zuckerberg Challenges Proposed FINRA-Style AI Watchdog

The U.S. government is considering a new group to watch powerful artificial intelligence systems.

The group could check AI models for safety problems before they are released widely.

Mark Zuckerberg, who leads Meta, told Donald Trump that he was worried about this idea.

He did not directly ask Trump to cancel the plan.

Instead, he said the people chosen to run it should favor fewer technology rules.

Demis Hassabis of Google supports creating an industry-backed group to address serious AI risks.

Zuckerberg has warned that government reviews could slow new AI products.

The White House says it wants both safe AI and continued innovation.

The proposed watchdog has not yet been finalized.
