Soybean Acreage Expected to Drop 5% as Farmers Shift Crops
Imagine farmers growing soybeans, a crop used to make oil and food.
But because they didn't make much money last year, they're starting to grow other things, like corn.
The people who keep track of soybean growing think there will be less soybeans planted this year.
This year the farmers have already started planting, and some of them have had to replant because the seeds didn't sprout well.
The government wants to help the farmers by increasing the price they get for the soybeans they grow.
SOPA expects a 5% decrease in soybean acreage this kharif season.
Farmers are shifting to crops like maize, pigeon pea, and cotton.
Soybean sowing is underway in key states including Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra.
Poor germination has led to re-sowing in some areas of Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh.
The government increased the minimum support price for soybeans for the 2025 kharif season.
