MMU objects to Vande Mataram event publicity
A group of Muslim leaders in Jammu and Kashmir, called the Mutahida Majlis-e-Ulema (MMU), are worried about ads for a singing contest.
The contest is about a song called 'Vande Mataram'.
The MMU says this song has meanings that are not part of their Islamic beliefs.
They think it's not right to have such contests because their religion doesn't allow them to support or praise things that are not part of their faith.
They made this statement on December 31.
The MMU also asked newspapers to be more careful about respecting different religious beliefs in the region.
The Mutahida Majlis-e-Ulema (MMU) expressed concern over the publicity of a Vande Mataram-themed singing competition.
The MMU stated that the event's theme conflicts with Islamic monotheistic beliefs.
The concern was raised due to the circulation of publicity material in local newspapers.
The statement was issued on December 31.
The MMU clarified that Islam does not permit participation in acts that sanctify or deify non-Islamic entities.
