Shah Assures Rules for Arunachal Freedom of Religion Act
The leader of a group from Arunachal Pradesh met with the Home Minister of India, Amit Shah.
They talked about a law from 1978 that is supposed to stop people from being forced to change their religion.
The law has not been working because the rules for it have not been made yet.
The group asked Mr. Shah to help make these rules soon.
Mr. Shah promised to do what he can to make this happen.
The group was happy because they think this will help protect their traditional beliefs and culture.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah met with a delegation from the Indigenous Faith and Cultural Society of Arunachal Pradesh (IFCSAP).
The delegation sought early framing of rules for the Arunachal Pradesh Freedom of Religion Act, 1978, which has been pending for decades.
Shah assured the delegation that necessary steps would be taken to frame the rules for the Act.
The Act aims to curb forced religious conversions through inducement or fraudulent means.
The Act has remained largely non-operational due to the absence of notified rules.
