How to Recover Money From Wrong Bank Debits and Charges

How to Recover Money From Wrong Bank Debits and Charges

If money leaves your bank account unexpectedly, tell your bank right away.

This could be an unauthorised payment, a duplicate debit or an incorrect fee.

Report an unauthorised transaction within three working days of the bank’s alert to qualify for zero liability in certain cases.

Do not rely only on a phone call; send a written complaint too.

Include the date, amount and reason you think the debit is wrong.

Save screenshots, emails, complaint numbers and bank replies.

If the bank does not solve the problem, you may be able to contact the RBI Ombudsman after 30 days or an unsatisfactory response.

Keep checking your account until the money is returned and the case is closed.
