Lalbaugcha Raja Wet Waste Initiative To Generate Hospital Electricity
The Lalbaugcha Raja festival produces a lot of leftover food and wet waste.
About 44 metric tonnes may be collected over 11 days.
Workers will take this waste to four hospitals in Mumbai.
Special machines will turn the waste into biogas.
The biogas will then help make electricity.
The electricity can run about 70 fans and 20 tube lights at a hospital.
This could save roughly ₹6,500 during the festival.
The project is called “Prasad to Energy.”
Around 44 metric tonnes of leftover food and wet waste will be collected during the 11-day Ganesh festival.
The waste comes from the Lalbaugcha Raja Prasadalaya’s food distribution centre and community kitchen.
BMC workers will transport the waste to biomethanation plants at four civic hospitals.
The plants will convert the waste into biogas and electricity for hospital use.
The initiative is expected to save about ₹6,500 in electricity costs during the festival.
