Maoists Surrender in Maharashtra, More Expected
Some Maoists, who have been fighting against the government in the Maharashtra–Madhya Pradesh–Chhattisgarh (MMC) zone, have decided to give up and surrender.
A senior leader named Anant, along with 10 others, handed over their weapons to the police in Gondia, Maharashtra.
This happened because many of their leaders have either surrendered or been killed, and the government has been asking them to give up their fight.
The police have been talking to the Maoists to convince them to surrender safely.
The government will help these surrendered Maoists to start a new life with money and support.
More Maoists are expected to surrender soon.
Senior Maoist leader Anant and 10 others surrendered to Maharashtra Police in Gondia on July 12, 2025.
Anant, the spokesperson of the MMC Special Zonal Committee, had requested time for the Maoists to surrender by January 1, 2026.
The surrendered cadres were armed with AK-47, SLR, INSAS rifles, 303 guns, and other weapons, with a total bounty of Rs 47.90 lakh.
Anant's surrender is seen as a significant setback for the Maoist network, with more surrenders expected from the MMC zone.
The Maharashtra government has been facilitating the surrender and rehabilitation of Maoists, with 37 surrenders in Gondia over the years.
