Delhi High Court Quashes Dowry Harassment FIR After Matrimonial Settlement
A woman had accused her husband and his family of harassment connected to dowry demands.
The couple married in March 2023 and later began living separately.
Police registered a criminal case in October 2024.
The couple then used mediation to settle their disagreement.
They also ended their marriage through Khula, a divorce under Muslim personal law.
The husband paid the agreed settlement amount of Rs 1.50 lakh.
The woman told the court that she agreed freely and did not oppose ending the case.
The Delhi High Court decided that continuing the criminal proceedings would not be useful because the dispute was mainly private.
The Delhi High Court quashed criminal proceedings against Mohd Kasim and his family after the parties settled their matrimonial dispute.
The case involved allegations of cruelty and dowry harassment following the couple’s March 11, 2023 marriage.

They reached a written settlement through mediation, obtained a Khula divorce, and the complainant received Rs 1.50 lakh and her articles.
Justice Ravinder Dudeja said continuing the primarily private dispute would serve no useful purpose and quashed the FIR under the court’s inherent powers.
